Parents and educators established Habitot Children's Museum in 1992 to meet in a safe and appropriate community the unique needs and interests of infants, infants and pre-scholars. After 6 years of community outreach and fundraising, Habitot opened its first facility in Berkeley city center in 1998.

The Habitot Children's Museum has become the most popular and award-winning discovery museum for children in the East Bay. Habitot creators have built a play and learning center where young children are 'the great ones'—to explore the arts and culture in a healthy environment particularly designed for little hands and bodies and the minds that develop.

The Habitot Children's Museum is actually at a crossroads. Their leased museum is situated in the center of Berkeley, with no room to grow. A bigger, improved museum for families with young children is required. It is important. Strategic Plan Present. The Board of Directors of Habitot is dedicated in the next three to five years to turn the museum into its own large, independent facility. They estimate that it will cost five to seven million dollars to secure and build out the new museum.

Benefits of Habitot to Young Children

With an annual interactive exhibit program, hands-on art programs, training courses, multipurpose events and shows, Child Safety Campaign, an early-year component in literature, a toy loan bibliothèque, and everyday social opportunities with others and their parents and carers.

  • The multisensory and thematic displays of the museum encourage curiosity, problem solving, social interaction and communication skills.

  • They help young children discover their environment, whether it is a food corner, a river or a rocket.

  • The exhibits provide a sense of fulfilment and self-confidence for young children. Some babies have taken their first steps here. Other young children are practicing new linguistic skills and saying 'Habitot, Habitot' and the phrase “I can do it.”
